    Happy New Year from CUT!

Happy New Year from the CUT fam!

There is nothing like the promise of a New Year, with so many possibilities. Here at CUT we are all constantly growing and changing. When you step outside of your comfort zone is when growth happens. It’s okay though, because it can be really awesome and exciting to push your limits.
2017 is all about taking risks. In each facet of your life there is room for change. One of the most fun things you can change is of course, your hair.
“A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life” said the lovely Coco Chanel. Truer words have never been spoken, and of course changing your hair color goes right along with cutting it.
Nervous or unsure of what to do? Why would I change my hair if I’m happy with it now? Book a consultation! We would love to see you and chat for a few minutes about different options. Coming from us, you’re getting an unbiased professional opinion, and we have so much fun doing so. For those of you that don’t like change, I urge you this year to open your mind to all the possibilities and take a leap of faith. I know you won’t regret it.
Whether it be in your personal, work, family, or hair life – change is good to embrace! Step out!

Lots of love in the New Year! Xo

    Reasons to Celebrate!

Where did the time go? We say that every year. As I count down the days to 2017, I can’t believe it’s actually here! I’m so grateful for so many things this past year. It’s been a roller coaster of events both inside and outside of the business. Mostly for good!

We had to say goodbye to one of our designers, who had been with us from the beginning, Jess. As many of you know, she traveled from Redbank which is over an hour commute. We were so thankful for the time she put in at CUT for the last three years and are happy she’s working closer to home full time, bought a new home, and is expecting her first child! So although we miss her dearly, we’re excited for her changes!

The girls here at CUT are all developing well too. Julianne got married and bought a home this year. Lauren was able to move into a new home with her daughter. Peach and Danielle launched a new business in the coffee realm. Peach is roasting coffee in Pittstown and is loving every moment of it. (Although he misses your faces!) Check out his new endeavor at Everything is so exciting for everyone.

As you may have noticed, we have been in loads of education- our entire team. Gillian and Peach attended some business classes while the designers attended some serious hands on classes. Danielle also had the opportunity to participate in another photo shoot this past month for some winter looks.

When you come to the studio you may notice some changes with photos, and some new tile work, amongst other things, to gear us up for the new year!! We will have some exciting things to come as well, but you’ll have to wait to hear those little details 😉

Please take note that at the beginning of the new year our prices will reflect the ones that are on our menu here online. Prices are always subject to change, but we strategically price ourselves to not only be competitive within the industry, but also due to inflation of product cost, materials, and cost of living. This is also how our designers and team get promoted, so we’re excited to have the girls move up to their new elite status’ ! Congratulations to Lauren for becoming a new elite cutter, and to Julianne for becoming a new elite colorist. It’s really been wonderful seeing all their training and hard work pay off!

Stay tuned for some exciting news, raffles, events and more! We love you guys, and are looking forward to this new year with you.

    October 18, 2016

I am honored and humbled to say we’re celebrating four years of being open on October 16th. As we’ve been toasting with our clients this week with champagne and mimosas, I have been getting the question of “Does it feel like its been four years?”. I don’t have an answer for that. In some aspects the time flew by because its really a great atmosphere here. Theres so much love and unity throughout the team that everyone clicks so well and makes the hours fly by as if you’re not even “working”.
However, on the other end of that question, we’ve been so blessed these last few years that its hard to believe we can accomplish so much in such a short amount of time! I am just sitting back, reflecting and feeling grateful for all of our clients who have supported us throughout the years, who tell their friends about us and are so proud to be here! Thank you to all of you! We couldn’t be where we are without you.

We are also excited because Arrojo Expo is next weekend. It is the single biggest education weekend Arrojo offers and our entire team will be going into the city to experience it. This year Peach will be a guest speaker for Nick as he talks about business! This is a really cool accomplishment and we are honored to have such an opportunity. All the designers will be doing a hands on cut/color/texture/style seminar over the course of two days. Stay tuned for some serious inspiration!

Beginning of November we have Emily Costello coming in and doing a hands on hair cutting class with us. She’s someone we all admire the work of, and we can’t wait to get a glimpse into her head and how she creates hair designs! So to say we will have lots of inspiration going into this Holiday season would be an understatement.

Looking forward to serving you through the rest of 2016 and many years to come! Thanks for your support!

    Balayage vs. Foils

Balayage is all the rage. Why? What makes it better than foils? Is it better than foils? In our humble opinion, they’re just different and serve a different purpose.

Foiled highlights seem like a thing of the past, but we are in fact still doing a lot of it. We aren’t necessarily saying goodbye to foils, however balayage is sweeping the hair industry almost as fast as pokemon hit everyone’s cellphones this past month.

So people are asking, why balayage? It’s low upkeep for one. When you feel like you need to get your highlights touched up every 8 weeks, balayage could be done every 12-14 weeks or maybe even longer depending on the look you’re going for! Balayage has a softer line of demarcation, as it doesn’t have a hard stop at the scalp, it is brushed up softer then a foil line. It may not leave it as dramatic as a foil will, but it can still create a statement.

Foils are great for a heavy, high lift blonde. If you’re determined to get rid of an old existing darker color rather quickly, foils could be for you. Balayage can also get you there, but it’s going to go at a slower pace than foils and may take a few visits.

Balayage can be custom for you, painting higher, lower, contouring the hair, adding custom dimension. Foils are great too for dimension, but it will look a little more structured where balayage is more lived-in, sometimes you can’t really tell where the color stops and starts as it’s more natural.

Foiled highlights can also give you a dramatic burst of color around your face, where maybe you can have balayage in the back to keep a “rooty” look. There are no limits with color now a days, and to be honest, both foil and hair painting can help you achieve different looks. We recommend bringing in pictures on your appointment day, things you love and things you really don’t. This helps us determine which would be good for you, foils or balayage.

Why is the price of balayage higher? Balayage uses a different product, formulated specifically for free-hand hairpainting. This product is priced higher and we have to use more of it. Balayage also takes more time, brain power and creativity used for placement and a custom color just for you with lower maintenance so you’ll be seeing us less. However, we’re finding that it’s worth every penny.

You will notice our balayage prices are now different from our foiled highlight prices. Truth be told we’ve been priced poorly for years. We have had ample amounts of training and advanced education in balayage and feel its time for a little price hike to compensate for the price of product we’ve been using.

Julianne’s color prices in general are going to raise up to “Elite Designer” prices starting in the 4th Quarter of the year. She has worked very hard in continued education, in and out of the hair studio. Please take note of this now as it will be effective October 1.

Thank you for reading and being a part of the CUT movement. We love you guys and look forward to painting, loving and serving you! xo

    A Note From Jess

    My dear CUT clients,
I am writing you to let you know that I am taking an indefinite hiatus.
I am sad to leave this team and each of you.
Many of you know I travel a little over an hour to be here with you. I have LOVED my 3 years here at CUT. It has grown me and pushed me as a hair designer as well as a person individually.
However, it is time for me to move on. I want to continue working where I live so I can be close to my family and community. I still love what I do, and will continue to grow in this field. I am forever grateful for the opporotiinty to be a part of and grow with CUT.  I love each person I have gotten to work with here . Each one is special and talented and beautiful. I am so excited to see what is in store for CUT!  I am excited to see how it grows! I am confident in each designer here and that they will take amazing care of you. Each person here is beyond talented and capable. I am so grateful for these past 3 years at CUT!

    Weddings and The Beach!

What is there to not like about this time of year? Being able to spend time outside, skin getting darker, hair going lighter, the sun, the warmth, and the inspiration.

For me there is a direct connection between nature and inspiration. Being outside and seeing the different shades of green, different shapes of leaves, the way the waves ripple at the beach. I can directly compare that to hair, easily. It happens without me even thinking about it.

Naturally beach hair would be the hottest trend right now- make sure to pick up Arrojo’s sea salt spray- Wave Mist to create that beachy, tousled hair. It’s a magical product. You can achieve the same beach texture without the sand and with a better scent! We have it available here at CUT.

It’s also wedding season. Here at CUT this is one area where we shine. It’s incredible to be a part of people’s days in such an important way. For me, a lot of the time I get to attend the weddings I do hair for. I had a gorgeous friend of mine tie the knot last weekend with her best friend. Not only was the bride glowing from overwhelming joy from the moment I walked into the bridal suite, but the day in itself was enchanting. I can’t help but show off some of the hair from her day.

Speaking of weddings- the most talked about topic at CUT right now is Julianne’s wedding which is happening this weekend. We are all attending the wedding and will be posting pictures from the festivities. Looking forward to sharing moments from that day with all of you! Keep an eye out for it.
