October is one of my favorite months of the year. It’s a big one here at CUT. On the 16th marks my 28th birthday and our three year anniversary of being open. We’re celebrating in big ways and also giving back.
So on October 16th we will be at the studio all day.. We will be doing hair and celebrating in some way, so make sure to pop in and say hello to us on that special day!
October is also National Breast Cancer Awareness month. As some of you may know, I lost my mom to a long battle of breast cancer. I’ve been wanting to do something in her honor for years, and I’m finally taking that leap! This disease has taken out way too many awesome people and we need to fight together for a cure.
What’s CUT going to do about it? During the entire month starting on the 1st and going until Halloween, for every service provided in the studio $1 will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation- from CUT. (i.e.: if you get a cut, color, and eyebrow wax that’s $3 because it’s per service, not per person!)
We will also be taking donations all month long! There are no minimums or max limits you can donate to the organization. 100% of the money will be donated, CUT will keep none of it. For every donation made, you’ll automatically be entered to win one of three awesome CUT gift baskets which include: products, brushes, gift certificates and more! If you’re a client of CUT you can pop in throughout the month and donate for a chance to win and participate- no need for an October appointment. Mel and Joanna will be taking cash and credit card donations at the time of your checkout process at the reception desk.
The whole team is honored to be putting on a fundraiser like this and look forward to fighting for a cure with our community!
It’s education season here at CUT Artisan Hair Design and that means fun and exciting things for both Designers and Clients alike! Education Tuesday happens every week at CUT Artisan Hair Designs. Designers and apprentices bring in models, either friends or total strangers, who sit back as the talented ladies of CUT showcase their new skills with a cut of their models choosing. Typically lead by Danielle, classes range in topic from color to cuts. Education Tuesdays are always fun, everyone leaves with a new confidence and an increase of knowledge! Win, Win!!!
Education doesn’t stop at the doors of CUT, oh no! In fact this month is especially grand for us as our education program takes us to one of the most influential cites in hair design. New York! This Past Monday Danielle and I were fortunate enough to attend a Balayage class in Fair Lawn NJ. Feeling inspired we decided, since we were so close, to head into NYC and double down! A short drive over the bridge and we arrived at Arrojo’s Studio for their Monday cutting demo known as, “Happy Mondays!” Come September we will be returning to New York for Butterly Circus, an educational and inspirational Circus featuring 6 famous educators with an array of expositions. Finally to finish out our “Tour de Education”, Arrojo’s October expo puts us back in the big city for 3 days of fun and learning! The Expo features classes and an all out runway party to showcase the best trends and styles of the year.
A fun easy trend that’s been popping up all over town is the top knot, which I am currently and proudly sporting! Love it or hate it, its In! The reason I love this trend so much is its simplicity and verticality. Braid it, twist it, neat, or messy all you need is a hair tie. This look is great for both men and women which earns my two thumbs up trend of the week.
On the more technical side another great style all over my trend radar is “The Muted Neons”. Think pastel with a newer edgier flare. The idea is to add a pastel color to a neon fusion color and create what can only be described as holographic Neon! This one is sure to gain some attention and have heads turing.
From Education Tuesdays, to our array of off site courses, this season is sure to be filled with the coolest looks and up to date trends. As always you are, Awesome, Appreciated, and Beautiful!
Ask and you shall receive! I put a feeler out on Facebook to all my clients and friends to hear what secrets and tips you’d like to know about hair and I received a TON of great responses! I will take the opportunity to blog about how I conquer some of the challenges that are more common than you think.
I was surprised not one person was concerned about their fading color out of all the feedback I got. I am going to assume that is because everyone is using their Arrojo Color Save Shampoo & Conditioner duo, right? Funny, but that’s how I saw my first response going on that, so I think I may just have to roll with it and then address the other challenges you’re foreseeing in your everyday styling! However, I can almost promise that your question may get answered in this blog, so read on.
My hair has been getting color applied to it for the last 15 years of my life. I can never know everything, nor will I ever try to say that. These ideas and tricks I have figured out along the way truly work for me and may be absolutely ludicrous, but do what’s needed to keep my hair vibrant. Right now for the first time in about ten years I have a not-so-normal color in my hair that needs a little more TLC then a basic color. So, here’s what I do [and don’t]:
I shampoo at most twice a week. Having long, thick hair is a blessing indeed, but oh is it a chore! To wash and blow dry my hair takes more time then I would like to spend getting ready each morning. Little do you know, when you see me my hair could be 4-5 days dirty! How do I do it? Don’t play. Your hair looks good, let it be. It won’t get flat, it won’t get the oils and dirt from your hands on it and will stay in the shape you put it into. Train your scalp to produce less oil. Our bodies are pretty rad, created by an awesome God who knew what He was doing. If you happen to be a daily shampooer, your body will produce more oil because it’s afraid you’re going to remove it again! It takes time, and patience, but eventually if you start skipping days your scalp will slow down on the speed it produces oil. Arrojo ReFinishing Dry Shampoo will help get you through that day at the gym too! Ask me about it!
I only wash my scalp. Shampoo is intended for the scalp, conditioner for the ends. Trust me when I say that by just shampooing your scalp you will not only save your color, but save the integrity of your hair as well! No need to dry out the ends of your already fragile hair, the shampoo will find its way to your ends without you rubbing suds all over them. Plus, a lot of conditioners now a days have the capability to do a little cleansing themselves not to mention will be a great perfume to the hair ends!
Using the correct products for color-treated hair! I don’t think I knew how much I could love a cosmetic product until I tried Arrojo’s line. We carry the Color Save Shampoo and Conditioner duo which could save you a lot of time, money and grief! Using this combination will keep your color vibrant and radiant until your next appointment [if booked in a timely manner recommended by your designer!]. We also have the Healing Oil and Protective Thickening Lotion which both have UV protectants in them to aid in preventing color from sun fade. You will want to find out more about those when you come see us!
Last but not least: upkeep! How on earth does Jessica Simpsons hair stay bright and not brassy even with those roots?! Even when she’s not in the hair studio getting a touch up, you bet her personal designer gives her toners and glazes to help keep her hair beautiful!! You never see any celebrities with grey roots, right? If it’s time to get color, there’s no other way then to freshen it up. Unfortunately, color is artificial, its not real, and it will fade away. So even me following these tricks listed above, I still get my touch up done at my base every 7-8 weeks and my green ends every 3 weeks. Oh, the price we pay for beauty. [Its really not that bad and totally worth it!]
Hope these anti-fading tricks helped some of you beauties! I look forward to hearing which ones you’ve applied to your new routine and how that’s working for you!
Welp, the groundhog told us we have six weeks to go so I have to wait it out. Until then, feeling good about what I’m doing.
Happy New Year!
2014 Was an incredible year for CUT and 2015 is already starting off that way!
We submitted a mini documentary video to Hairbrained.me in hopes to win the grand prize of $5000. We will most likely be putting that money towards education for this year for our entire CUT team. Theres also a new pair of shears I’ve had my eyes on as well! Anyway, it has been an honor to show the industry and our community what CUT is all about and how we place our values. Check out our video submission:
In the new year we have some things up our sleeves that i look forward to sharing with you all. As anyone knows who walks into our studio we really value education. I am sitting under a cork board that is filled with pamphlets and flyers on advanced education. We are often receiving education, but will soon be providing it for other like-minded hair designers as well as students in the surrounding schools. We are taking over Hunterdon County’s Cosmetology Association and will be reconfiguring the system as a whole and hopefully will make an impact on the local community of hair designers!
Don’t you worry though, I am still being poured into all year as well. As an Elite Designer I am committed to 12 classes each year for myself! My first one I have booked for January is with Vidal Sassoon. This is an ABC precision cutting course [with scissor!]. I am excited to master my shear work this winter and provide some new techniques to perfect your hair design!
Stay tuned for more updates throughout the weeks! I am positive there will be many more!
